Older son turned five on Monday, after a long celebratory weekend that will heretofore set the standard for the duration of all future birthdays.

And though I couldn't have known it way back in 2007, but I managed to become the first neighbourhood dad to distribute waivers to prospective birthday guests along with their invitations.

Awesome! I wish *I*'d had a rock-climbing birthday! Maybe this year :)

What an awesome party!

I will say, having been photographed while rock climbing (in Alberta), there's nothing quite like seeing your arse in a harness, suspended in mid-air, to make you think, "Huhn... maybe I should lay off chocolate chip cookies for a while."

My neighbour used to issue waivers to the neighbourhood kids who wanted to ride their 3-wheeled ATV. That was after one kid from away, managed to tip it. The rest of us hicks knew how to drive the thing. Not soon after, the machines were banned.
