Fun things to do with your weekend: Commit Mass Floricide

The Lovely Wife's sister and family are moving back east from the land of cows and oil, and next month will be occupying the house they purchased 3 years ago and have been renting, but which has been vacant for a couple of weeks now. In the interim, we're looking out for the place and doing some light maintenance. Yesterday*, I committed to razing the overgrown fields of dandelions**.
Her: So, how did the lawn-mowing [on the sinfully large lot] go?
Me: Good, good. The riding mower*** worked just fine.
Her: Did it take you long?
Me: Well, it took me about an hour and a half. And at $1.35 a litre, about $5 in gas.
Her: She'll be so happy to hear that you got that done.

Me: I'm gonna write an email to [brother in law] Rob a note, letting him know how much it cost, how long it took... and then asking him how much I still owe him.

Moral: Mike doesn't get out much, let alone get time to play with large, expensive gas-powered toys.

*Yesterday being the first day since Thursday that I felt like I had the energy to do anything requiring more energy than it takes to leap from the couch, run to the bathroom, retch and puke my guts out. Oh, Stomach Flu. How long has it been? How I've missed you! Now kindly bugger off.

**Older Son exclaimed a day earlier, upon surveying several thousand dandelions flourishing in the back-forty: "Wow, they sure have a lot of beautiful flowers in their garden!"

*** Yes, I let Older Son ride on the mower with me, against my better judgment. Normally, my better judgment isn't any better than my worse judgment, and I told myself I wasn't going to let him, but once I got the hang of things it seemed fine to let him ride along between me and the steering wheel. And yes, we had it on the slowest speed it would go. And no, I didn't do any rally-driving. Please don't take my kids away.

Yes, I still have fond memories of my Mom and Dad driving around on their riding mower with my girls in their laps. I've got pictures too! The girls loved it and soon were driving it themselves, (tho, not with the blade down).

I really don't think they're going to take your kids away for that. No one has called in my dad for taking the grandchildren on the ride on at home.

Steph and I have a friend at knitting who was telling us about when she was a kid living with her family for a time in Haiti - she has fond memories of riding around ON TOP of a moving car and her brother falling off (he was fine).

Another kid may or may not have been driving said care...I can't remember all the details...

I should perhaps mention that our friend is not actually Haitian - they were just living there for awhile for her dad's work.
