On Game Shows and Microevolution

Sitting in front of the television during a 15 minute respite between The Lovely Wife's gymnastics class (teaching, not gym…nasticking?) and her late-evening soccer game, we saw the preview for The Moment of Truth, a game show which for a moment I mistook as a reincarnation of whatever that trainwreck of a game show they had John McEnroe hosting.

Now I'd seen this preview before, and chuckled at the concept and whether I could pull it off*; basically it's like Law & Order meets The Newlywed Game , only without Chris Noth in the part of Bob Eubanks. Contestants, as I see it, are hooked up to a lie detector and asked uncomfortable and quite likely divorce-inducing questions, like "would you rather eat your family pet or go on a seven day cruise with your in-laws?" or "Is there any part of your husband's body that you find disgusting?"

TLW, turning briefly to me, says, "What an insane game? Who would go on something like that?" and then, without skipping a beat, says, "Your toes. They disgust me. I'm sorry."

I am right now finding out how to get her on this show so we can take care of that pesky mortgage of ours.

* Thus, the reason the game show exists in the first place.

I've seen the commercials for that, and all I can think is who the hell would go on that show??? Please don't be one of them.

Just another show that I can't understand why people sign up for (like Supernanny, or How Clean is your house) ALL your problems on display for world and the more drama the better? No thanks!

candy: No worries. We're far too entertained by other morons to actually attempt it ourselves.

lesley: these are the same people who think they'll win the million (?) on Deal or No Deal, too. Silly.

karen: sicko.
