Self vs. Other

Let's not call it an identity crisis. Let's call it a (debatably) much overdue rejigging of the way things look around here. I got a bit of a wake-up call via a blog review* the other day, and I learned the following:

1) My standard, "blogger minima" template? bo-ring.
2) Twelve posts about scotch over 244 entries (5%) apparently seems obsessive.
3) Also, 244 entries is "not posting much"
4) I have me some cute kids (Newsflash? No.)
5) I do post "some interesting stuff"
6) But my template needs serious work**. Sure, there's no clutter. But there wasn't much of anything.

So bear with me as I try to work my way towards a template that seems to work and not threaten to blow up every time I modify it.

UPDATE: Okay, so the template blew up in Firefox. Serves me right for trying to optimize using IE, right? Should be slightly better now (just don't tell me you're using Safari, or I'm gonna have to kick some ass.) Thanks for everyone's input!

* I score 4/10 on their relatively nebulous judging system, a score that didn't bother me in the least, but if I was going to, uh, improve, I had to think about what I would do about my template. Judging by the slaughter of the other blogs, I should hold my head high for this score.

**but I shouldn't go too flashy, cuz that's just not my style (see above: bo-ring). I trust I scored half point on content.

your template is in desperate need of some fruit, s'all i can say.

(but i liked the old one. so there.)

Perhaps a persimmon collage, Joy?

Figures you'd both like my old template and desire for fruit. You're good that way :)

I wouldn't put too much stock in their rating, but I liked the old template too.

I liked the old one, but I can't even read the post here because the header's in the way. Who was it that was uber-critical?

I know this guy...he can fix your template, he did wonders for mine! ;)

this approaches unreadable in firefox...

Firefox here too... header in the way and the text flows under the frame on the right.

That out of the way, you don't post much? By comparison I must be in the post count negatives.

Just because you post about Scotch doesn't mean you are an alcoholic.

Hey, thanks everyone. I know you're all just saying I didn't have to change things to drive me fucking nuts. Truth is, I do like to tinker -- and when I have the time to do it, I like to learn new stuff. I may scrap all of this and move to something a little more point-and-click, but in the meantime, I'll keep messing with this template.

woman with kids: Thanks. I'm not putting much stock in the rating, but I did actually appreciate some of the style feedback (since I have none)

sadie: You know a guy? Tell him to call me. :P

brianna: Hopefully I've fixed that. Work computers do not have FF. Boo.

charlatan: thanks for the specifics. I think I've addressed both those issues, as long as nobody's using Safari.

Nice color choices on the new template. You might want to watch the default font size though, it borders on the small.

I have thought about using the review, but decided that i don't want to hear what they have to say.

I'm really just curious as to why you felt the need to get the opinion of gals who aspire to be Bratz dolls? I don't know how much the opinion of wannabe-child-hookers matters to those of us who read your blog because we find it to be well-written and entertaining.
I don't like Bratz dolls. Perhaps I should have said that first, since it taints my opinion of what the "Divas" have to offer.
Like the new look, but the font is a bit small.

I'm with Lesley about the pornogaphic dollies, but I DO like the new template no matter whose idea it was. :) And now that you can read it in Firefox? Fantastico.
