Playoff Weekend at Chez Mikestand

Overheard in our living room, while The Lovely Wife was flipping channels between possessions in the New England / New York Jets football game* and becoming disconcerted that the only other sport on the tube was Professional Bowling**:

Me: If you had to watch 2 hours of poker, or two hours of professional bowling, what would you rather watch?
Her: Hold it. I HAVE to?

Me: Yup.
Her: Bowling. No question.

Me: Really. I would have thought poker would be at least marginally mentally stimulating.
Her: Bowling.

Her: What would YOU rather watch for two hours: ballet or fig...
Me: Figure skating.

In hindsight, I might have answered that a little too quickly.

* Back in the courtship phase, TLW was the one with the television: a nice 27" jobby, while I brought nothing but a laptop and a banker's box full of CDs to Grad residence. She was clearly the sports fan of the relationship, but I keep up with the NFL so I'm not a sports widower. I do, however, maintain we need to upgrade our stuff.

** not to be confused with the NFL ProBowl. And not that anyone in this household has ever gotten them confused before.

When Romo left the 'boys Nomo, weren't no more use in watching the NFL this season. Sigh.
Too bad about the quick figure skating comment, dude. Good luck.

shockingly I totally watched most of the Giants/Jet's game -- I was offered free wine to do so.

I'd go poker and figure skating myself.

I'm the sports fan in the house too...don't feel bad.

The big question is...curling (yay!) or baseball (*shudder*)? Depends on what your definition of boring is, I guess...

Totally appreciate where you're coming from. Without TLF, I would probably spend my Sunday afternoons wearing a tweed jacket, sitting in a big chair, and rereading the Canterbury tails while smoking a pipe... or something.
