Harbour Watch: One Is Suddenly Two

Sometime last week another jack-up rig sailed into town. The one on the right is the Rowan Gorilla VI (previously seen here). Apologies for the quality of the shot; camera phones certainly sacrifice image quality in favour of convenience.

I have yet to find out what the other rig is, which is not to say I'm not burning with curiosity

In other news, this bad boy steamed in on Sunday morning. Huge? Understatement

I now return you to your regularly scheduled, non-harbour-obsessed day.

UPDATE:This just in (via Mac MacKay who publishes Shipfax, a monthly newsletter detailing the comings and goings in the harbour): The second rig pictured is the GSF Galaxy II. And it arrived on Decmeber 23rd. Thanks to Mac for clearing that up for me.

OMG I saw two on New Years eve on the Darkside. It is so very impressive it's hard to comprehend unless you see it for yourself.

PS I can't believe that I am commenting about an oil rig!

Ahhhh.... that's one of the many things I miss about that city - watching the traffic in the harbour. I used to live on the 26th floor of Fenwick Towers, and have several pictures of various rigs, cruise ships, and submarines.

I saw the second one being brought in. The ships they use to move them are pretty neat. We got pretty close to the Rowan Gorilla when she was first in. You can practically stand next to it at the Woodside ferry.
