Mondays are for Catching Up

With so much going on around our house, it was a toss-up as to what constituted the real highlight of the weekend.

Was it that despite all the rain we got last night, and the growing, gaping, boulder-filled hole outside the foundation of the house, we still didn't get any water in the basement? Small miracle, perhaps.

It could have been that The Toddler's Big Boy Bed is now in full action: I put it together on Saturday morning with only a minimum of tinkering (hand-me-downs are good), and The Lovely Wife picked up a reasonably priced mattress (Sears foolishly thought we might pay $379 for a twin mattress), and we furnished it with the awesomest Thomas the Tank Engine sheet and comforter set (more extremely well-timed second-hand stuff).

Was it that Younger Son napped like a true angel yesterday, and The Toddler went on an extended car ride with his grandparents, leaving me and TLW to hang satellite speakers in the living room and read Earthcore & watch football, respectively?

Maybe it was celebrating one week of successful potty training, including four overnights (three of them dry).

No. It wasn't any of those things.

The highlight of the weekend was hearing a story of the Toddler playing independently with his trains. Apparently at one point, he was driving one of the trains (don't ask me which -- there are only about 75 differently-named trains) around the empty tackle box that he as a carrying case, and he stopped and uttered the following:

"Hi, I'd like a coffee with milk please!"

That's right. The Toddler's imagination made sure there was a Drive Thru* so his trains could get some coffee.

Thank you. Drive thru!

*Is it just me, or is anybody else disgusted by the word "thru"?

I hate all shortened words like that. Thru. Ur. Tho.

It doesn't take THAT much extra time to just type out the damn word.

I'm averse to all contractions - my students have a bad habit of texting me messages that employ evil shorthand and it's become one of my bigger peeves.

Congrats on the big boy bed. And on raising a future caffeine freak.
