Scotch Watch III - Cragganmore 12 and guests
Monday, June 05, 2006
Hello and welcome to the third (official) episode of Scotch Watch. This week I enlist the help of my father in law and his brother, the former knowing little of scotch and the latter knowing perhaps a little too much. Regardless, fun was had by all, and the tasting led to sampling of the house bottle of Grappa and a conversation about the proper pronunciation of the word "schnapps".
Let me just say that it's always a pleasure to have a drink with my uncle (in-law), especially when it's scotch. It's even more of a pleasure when it's his bottle, but that was not the case this time around. The father-in-law is also fun to drink with, but getting him and his brother together for drinks is a special treat. I had purchased this bottle over the weekend, but didn't crack it because I knew I wouldn't have time to do the review right.
The Malt: Cragganmore 12 year old

Alas, fun was had by all. Tune in next time when we get into some Talisker, or some Macallan. Or something like that. It's not like I'm planning this stuff, you know.

The review:
Uncle-in-law: rates it at a 6, upping it considerably as he hits his second and third tasting. Smooth, not peaty, very approachable. Not too thick, not too heavy. Definitely appealing to the masses. Possibly too good to be a Speyside malt.
Father-in-law: thinks this is a good scotch. Doesn't really know why. Considers that adding water indeed makes this drink better.
Me: rates this scotch a 7.5 or an 8 out of ten. Definitely an appealing little malt. Not overly peaty. Seems to be smoother than the other single malts sampled.

* (the price tag said "$58.99" so I'm not sure if there was a special on)

I'm with ya, Meghan. Scotch is one of those things I don't get. Like Desperate Housewives.
And American Idol.
Mrs. Mikestand's look = priceless.
They need your help over here, Mikey.
Sweet. My comments are added there :)
and yeah, Dustin. She's just miffed that I couldn't have chosen something SHE likes as sampling-fodder. Can't win 'em all.
