Somehow it's all worth it. I think.

The mental dry-heaving, and all the other stress over the Very Important Appointment have paid off.

I got the job*, after enduring the three-hour written test and the hour-and-a-half committee interview.  Man, getting a federal job is H-A-R-D!

Still haven't received the formal offer of employment yet, but I should be getting that today; yesterday was "fill out these security clearance forms first" day. Apparently the former cannot be done without the latter. I also haven't notified my current employer about this very exciting news (which they may differ in their opinion of its exciting-ness) -- I'm just waiting to get the formal offer first.

I have to confess: I'm a little afraid of the job-switch. Yeah, I'm pretty comfortable in my current job, and they treat me very well and I have loads of job flexibility. But it's time to move into something new, and face some new challenges (and get a bigger paycheck, but never mind that). People I know (a certain lawyer in Toronto and a certain heavy duty mechanic in Edmonton) switch jobs all the time. What makes me think I should be a career-man? My lovely wife informs me that people stay at jobs for an average of five years. That sounds to me like a lot of recurring stress. Damn me for always wanting the easy way out.

In other news-you-already-know-about, the house is on the market, though you can't view it on the public Multiple Listings Service ( yet. We have one showing later today, and an open house tomorrow. So basically we're staying the hell out of the place until tomorrow afternoon. Praying for a quick sale, I am.

Enough self-absorbed drivel. For now.

*Oh, you didn't know it was a job interview? Your sleuthing skills are rusty.
